I ate this

Pasta send-off

It's hard to imagine that blogging about lunch became a bit dull. I eat some pretty tasty things, and while it was fun to document them, there really is only so much writing about macaroni and cheese a human can do.

If you care enough, I have a Tumblr and Twitter that you can read. There will undoubtedly be a photo of something I ate in there somewhere.

I leave you with this plate of pasta, in parting.

Chicago, meet British food

Imag0149

Mushroom and kale royal pie business going on.

Pleasant House Bakery is pretty effing cute, and British. It is also in Bridgeport, which is the exact opposite of my house. Drink their ginger ale.

P.S. You heard it here: Chicago has been hit with straight up adorable British restaurants.

Scallops at Owen and Engine

Imag0111

Owen and Engine is adorable. It's also in a bit of a strange location, across the street from the only Burger King I've seen in Chicago and next to the movie theater that didn't get the memo that it's no longer 1993. But Chicago loves its nice-looking restaurants in strange locations; we know this.

I ordered scallops. They came with a pea puree, onions and crispy prosciutto. It was salty and I was happy.

Koala Yummies do not equal sporty pandas

I, like a fair number of American children, remember Koala Yummies for their adorableness, chocolate filling and six-sided box. I remember them being yummy, but like a fair number of American children, I generally found sugar to be yummy.

These are not Koala Yummies. They are sport pandas. Pandas and koalas share the characteristic that neither are bears, and these panda and koala cookies share the characteristic that they are filled with chocolate, but they are not one and the same.

Beer. Mac and cheese. Revolution Brewery.

Adulthood > Childhood

Being an adult means you can eat macaroni and cheese whenever you want and have a beer with it. So there, kiddies.

Fried green tomatoes at Honky Tonk

If you've never had a fried green tomato, you're missing out. I've been missing out for 24 years.

BL-fried green Tomato and a side of fried green tomatoes at Honky Tonk. Making up for lost time.

Veggie burger from The Counter

Imag0080

Things on this veggie burger from The Counter:

  • Gruyere
  • roasted red pepper
  • pineapple
  • mushrooms
  • lettuce
  • cucumber
  • chipotle aioli

Basically the messiest burger ever. Knife and fork messy, which is kind of unfair, because the real fun of eating things between slices of bread is that you get to do it with your hands.

Goat cheese crepes

Img_1193

I neglected to post these. Crepes filled with goat cheese via New York Times. We went for Greek yogurt over regular yogurt because it is always superior.
